I hate the idea of having just lost everything I did. That takes time and means every level takes longer, way longer, which is why I’d been on this level for so long. What has happened to my progress? I’m not playing the game at the moment because I don’t want to risk writing over 100+ hours of gameplay as losing that progress would be heartbreaking. In my settings I’d had it set to autosave every game month and store five saves so I went to the appdata folder and none of those files are there career2, career3 etc are all several days old. I do so and load the game - but it loads the save game from the cloud rather than from my hard drive. My laptop suddenly powers down for whatever reason (it’s ancient) and it forces me to go online before launching the game.

I’ve been playing in offline mode for several days (there are reasons) and have been playing a LOT so we are talking 100+ hours of gameplay.
